BMW has presented the concept of a sports-touring motorcycle that is going to compete with the best sports touring machines in the near future. The BMW’s concept has a technologically sophisticated 6-cylinder inline engine that continues the evolution of K series, while introducing new concepts of comfort, performance and technological perfection to the world of motorcycle. The BMW Concept 6 has a futuristic design based on new Bavarian sports bike design that will almost certainly replace the actual K1300 series and be a direct competitor with the new Honda VFR 1200. The aggregate is more compact than all previous four-inline engines (shorter for about ten centimeters) and as such, only slightly wider than the conventional four-cylinder engines. Design and technology implementation in combination with modern lightweight materials has allowed the production of relatively light engine with dry sump, which will be low installed and will allow a favorable distribution of weight of the motorcycle and good driving characteristics. The fairly ecologically aware aggregate, will have about the same power compared with 1300-cubic predecessor and will not be significantly higher, but the new engine will offer a much higher torque - 130 Nm at 2000 rpm. Yes, at only 2,000 rpm and it will run on petrol, not diesel! Dynamic and clean modern Bavarian power plant will be equipped with a series of modern technological toys such as the ride-by-wire system, electronically adjustable suspension and a new generation of LED headlights. As is the trend in the last two years, we can also expect an automatic transmission that will allow manual shifting and many other gadgets that will make the ride more pleasurable and increase safety.
